About Kayla
I teach students to use art as therapy while they create for fun, integrating sketchbook work as a key way to draw out subconscious artistic ideation and untapped shadow selves. I'm technically skilled, having 31/2 years of college oil painting courses, drawing, color theory, and ideation courses. I am comfortable teaching abstract art in all mediums, as well as general crafts, and drawing.
I used to technical oil painting classes to groups of retired women in north Vernon Indiana.
I went to Herron School of Art and my major was traditional oil painting. I also took several sculpture classes, color theory, ideation courses, and drawing classes.

If we are working with oil paint, I start out explaining the technical aspects like best station set up, as well as canvas prep, color mixing, and brush work.
If we are learning drawing, I will always begin with how to begin drawing, the types of thing to draw to exercise the hands, the mind, and then the hand and mind together.
I've worked with older women, and I've also taught younger children basic art concepts for fun.
Make sure you look for a teacher who is just as invested in ideation development as they are technical skill. There is no art without heart.
