About Eva

Aloha!

Let's share some art techniques and some laughs from beautiful Hawaii! I do a bit of stand-up comedy, and I love to teach and joke.

I have more than 25 years of experience teaching art, and I even owned an art supply store, so I can give you expert advice on materials, along with plenty of art jokes.

I know that anyone can enjoy art, and I have even taught a few legally blind people to draw. I hope they're still laughing at least!

Neuroscience is one of my interests and I teach tricks and strategies for managing your brain for successful art making as we tickle our funny bones.

Profanity is recommended, but optional!

I teach public high school for a living, and I seriously love it. The teenagers teach me so much, and they're hilarious. I wake up every morning excited to change the world one artist at a time!

I also really love figuring out how to teach each unique human in a way that best allows them to flourish.

I taught adults for 14 years before my 10 years of teaching high school art, and I produce my own artwork as well. I do have a degree in studio art, and I have been selling art supplies, teaching art, taking classes and making my own art for my entire 49 years.

I can help any artist achieve their goals. I can teach everything from basic drawing to oil painting. I also love block printing, all painting media, pastels, ink drawings, collage, sunscreen, and mixed media.

I started teaching art as soon as I graduated from college with my degree. I soon opened my art supply store, and I taught lessons in every medium we carried for both adults and youth.

I currently teach high school art!

I have a degree in studio art with honors from Beloit College, and a teaching certification from University of Hawaii. I also studied abroad at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland.

I owned an art supply store for 14 years, so I have experience with a vast variety of materials and competing brands. I can give great advice on materials and techniques. I am especially good at "fixing" your art problems!

About the lesson

Hey! Let's get to know each other first and you can tell me your wildest artistic goals. Then we can come up with a lesson schedule with as little or as much instruction, cheerleading, or critique as you need!

Most lessons will be by zoom, as I live in Keaau, Hawaii, but if you live here, or come here on vacation, I will come teach you in person!

I have worked with artists of every age from kindergarten to their 90s. I am a professional school teacher, so I have been trained in human development and meeting students where their needs are.

Find someone whose personality you enjoy! You want to be excited to keep learning! The best teachers build a relationship with you, and teach what and how you want it!

I just taught a unit on Hawaii's native species, and the students made really fantastic pieces! Four pieces were accepted in a prestigious art show, and three of them sold! At this same show, I was gobsmacked by a fantastic mosaic, and when I saw the artist's name, I saw it was a woman to whom I taught beginning mosaics! More than one of my students have gone on to become professional artists.

Details

I charge $25 per hour! If you have friends, it's $5 per hour more for each person.

So 2 people would be $30, 3 for $35, etc.
