About Stephen

One World Arts was originally founded to bring members of the community together to collaborate with each other. Many people said they would love to join in, but they did not know how to make art or they believed that they were not talented. Art lessons immediately became a major part of that community setting. At One World, everyone learns that everyone ALREADY has the talent! If you can move color, you can make art!

I live and breathe art and LOVE collaboration. My favorite moment is when a student "gets it" and learns something new. I can teach ANYONE that EVERYONE is an artist!

I started a community art gathering called One World Arts in 1993 and found that many attendees were not confident that they could make art, but really wanted to. So I began teaching some of them the simple tricks and techniques that helped them realize that they really could be artists. An art gallery owner in Paris, KY heard about me and put out a call for an art instructor to come to her gallery and teach people different kinds of art and I answered. I taught beginning, intermediate and advanced drawing and the same levels in watercolour painting. I taught students from ages 12 to 85 in groups of 6 for 6 weeks at 1 hour per week.

Everything high school had to offer and a 2 year art degree as a young person. Then, 30 years experience as a professional artist, graphic artist, art instructor, creative director, mural and portrait artist. I have been teaching people to become artists for over 20 years and will continue to do so for many many more!

About the lesson

I will first find out what a new artist already knows and build an exerience around that. This gives someone a good solid starting point and the confidence that art is possible. If a student knows nothing--a rarity--then we start off right at the beginning of drawing a sphere with light, shade, and reflected light. This can be very enlightening for a new artist and save them from a lot of confusion or frustration.

I have worked with completely inexperienced artists and had them drawing well in the first session!

I have worked with artists that already had some skill levels and was able to use their knowledge and skills to build on.

I have worked with adults and children of all ability levels.

I worked for 14 years as an art coordinator, intsructor and eventually creative director for adults with developmental disabilities and special needs, helping them to release the artists within!

Details

$75 for a single 2 hour lesson and $50 for a single 1 hour session. If enrolled for six or more 1 hour lessons, the price is $40 per lesson.

I can also work with people that may have difficulties paying that amount. Just contact me!
