About Dasha

Ive been teaching kids art for over 6 years. Ive worked with summer camps, one on one, and kids with Autism. I'm currently a mentor at The Islands of Brilliance in MKE.

My best skills are oil painting, drawing, photoshop and procreate. The goal for each of my sessiong is to encourage personal and creative growth with a curriculum of techniques as the backbone of the conversation. I also love talking about art careers (there are many) and what it takes to be an artist in the field.

I am in my last year at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. I will be graduating with a BFA in Industrial (product) design. Kids have way better ideas than adults. Normally kids have less bias and are more fearless when it comes to exploring new things. This helps me in my personal practive.

I also would love to make art more accesible and inform parents that their kids won't be "broke" if they pursue a creative field. The world is changing and automation is taking over more and more, thinking like a designer and learning to lean out of you comfort zone and into the process is a skill more hirable than ever. Great ideas don't come from nowwhere they come from the habbit of exploring outside the comfort zone.

In 1999 I came out of the womb and started painting (no lie)

In 2017 I started going to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with a Portfolio scholarship.

In 2018 I worked at Lifetime Summer Camp and ran art sessions

In 2019 I worked at Project Ember leading design groups of kids aged 6-9 building with 2 x 4s and the design process

In 2020 I started working at the Islands of Brilliance mentoring kids and yound adults with autism how to use photoshop and procreate

About the lesson

Typical greetings followed by questions about the mediums they most love to use, what they want to learn, and anything they want to share with me. Then I talk about some things that I have done that seem relevant, maybe show some work I've done with other students so they understand what it possible and then agree on a prompt to work on together. I often work with my students, doing the same thing (roughly) at the same time so if they want an explaination for something or an example of a technique, Im already in a similar process so I can suggest what they can do without touching their artwork.
