About Tiffany

Artist Tree Studio is a private art studio specializing in art classes for kids in Temple, TX. Join us to learn, explore, and create through acrylics, watercolors, pastels, tempera, markers, chalk, colored pencils, pen and ink, mixed media and much more! We will be learning all about the elements and principles of art using examples throughout art history to help us create our own masterpieces. There will be a fall and spring semester each lasting 16 weeks long. Classes will meet weekly at Artist Tree Studio (located in our home at 3807 Chisholm Trail, Temple, TX 76504). Students Kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome. Are you ready to get creative!?

In the fall Artist Tree Studio puts on an art show. We spend the semester creating art of a specific theme in various art mediums-- this year is “The Arts” (music, dance, poetry, etc). The kids will create about 10 projects based on the theme, which will be displayed at our art show (located at a rented art venue). Students are encouraged to invite parents, grandparents, friends, and family to come to the show!

In the spring Artist Tree Studio has two main objectives. We participate in an art contest (this year’s contest is TBD), and we create art for a permanent project to be installed somewhere in the community.

The art contest is a great opportunity for kids to spend a lot of time on one piece of art. We will spend about 2 months on this project, the first month brainstorming ideas and practicing in the selected medium (watercolor, pastel, etc) and the second month drawing and carefully creating the finished project. We use professional artist supplies for the contest, and students love to go big!

The community project is new this year. I hope to work with the city to come up with a project that the kids can make for the community. This might be a park bench or trash can wrap or some other playground decoration. The classes will all work together to creat one big image that can be produced professionally and installed in the community!

I have taught art classes here and there over the past decade, but "Artist Tree Studio" as we now know it was officially launched in the fall of 2017. I began with a love of art and teaching and 6 elementary students and the studio expanded naturally over time. It started for practical reasons: I am a stay at home mom, and I love the opportunity teaching art gives me to stay home with my kids but also help provide for my family. But what I didn't know when I started the studio was how much I would fall in love with unleashing the wild creativity of young kids. They amaze me, and I love my job!

Over the past couple of years we have developed a rhythm for the year which includes art shows, art contests, community art projects, and summer camps that allow students to explore a wide variety of art experiences that shape them and grow them. It is a privilege to be a part of their artistic journey!

About the lesson

Students enter into a class with other young artists. Everyone works on a project of the same theme at their own level and pace. Each student is applauded and encouraged in their successes and challenged to explore and improve with new materials and new techniques!

In Houston, where the studio began, I worked with a very diverse population of kids. Students were multi-cultural, and I loved the diversity of influence that provided for our classes. I teach elementary kids- grades Kinder-5th grade.

My favorite event of the year is the annual art show. We rent a professional venue in town. All of the artwork is matted and neatly displayed. All of the art created that semester aligns with the theme of our show. Students invite their friends and family to come and enjoy the art, we have refreshments, and have a wonderful time celebrating the creativity and hard work of the students. It is a lot of work to pull the show together, but it is always the most rewarding and exciting night of the year!

Details

Each semester we use a wide range of materials, put on an art show (fall), enter an art contest (spring), and do a big community collaborative project. To offset extra costs from materials and events, a $100 supply/event fee is due at the beginning of each semester. Outside of that fee, lessons are $80 per month for weekly 1.5 hour classes. The supply fee will be pro-rated for students beginning mid-semester.
