About Joshua
Hi! I'm Joshua and I am a formally trained educator, certified tutor with the National Tutoring Association, college professor of five years, and PhD. student. My background in education, years of experience, and dedication to providing the best learning environment possible for my students is why I should be your tutor.
Education is my passion, and I have dedicated my professional life to it. The best thing about the job is seeing when a student grasps a concept that they have been struggling with. Nothing is better than using my experience and education to help others attain the knowledge and skill they want.
I began tutoring in 2014 as a way to help my fellow students in my upper devision chemistry courses, and at the time I did not ask for money, they would donate what they thought the help was worth. It was a semester later that I began working through the univeristy to be an official tutor, and through that program I began to get training in education theory. Once I had that experience, I decided that I wanted to go into academia, and spent a year auditing classes from the Masters of Education program to better learn how to teach. In 2016 I was hired at Vanguard University to teach their chemistry labs, and I have continued to both gain experience in my field, but also learn education theory in that capacity.
I have worked as a professional tutor, certified by the American Tutoring Association, since 2014, and have also been a Professor of Chemistry since 2016. In both roles I have studied education theory and developmental psychology, which allows me to best communicate my knowledge gained from my B.S. in Chemistry to my students.

I always begin by talking with a student and discussing how they best learn, what their goals are for a subject, and what material in that subject they already understand. Once we both know the answers to those three things, we can best work out how to tutor that individual student.
I generally work with students from High School through Undergraduate in College, as I specialize in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
It's important for a student to find a teacher or tutor who is a good fit for them and who respects their individual learning style. Not everyone learns the best in the same way, and so you shouldn't look for a tutor who only teaches in one way.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The three big questions for a student are always:
1. How do you learn? What methods work well for you, and what methods do you struggle with?
2. What are your goals for a particular subject? Where are you trying to get to with the material?
3. What do you already know? What material have you already mastered and do not need review of?
