About Chloe

I like to build off of the qualities my students already possess. By getting to know their strengths and weaknesses I'll be able to help them help themselves. I also like to incorporate what they are passionate about into lessons.

I've always enjoyed working with people because of just how rewarding it is. With tutoring, that great feeling is multiplied. Seeing kids have "ah ha" moments where everything clicks is heartwarming.

I was introduced to tutoring when I was recommended for my high school's writing center. Here, I helped high schoolers with their essays and realized how much I enjoyed it. 



I am currently studying to be a creative writing major at Emerson College, so I'm very familiar with the rules of grammar/English. I was also a writing tutor at my high school for two years. I helped tutor math at Codman Academy through a program at my college. I have been doing tutoring jobs whenever they popped up and fit into my schedule.

With new students, I like to start by just introducing myself and making sure they are comfortable around me. The last thing I would want is for them to be nervous around me, and have that affect the session. I also like to get to know them a bit and find at least one interest that I can bring up later. 



I've worked with a wide range of students from primary school all the way to high school. 



Find someone who has the experience, but also someone who you feel comfortable with. For me, being able to find someone who is able to match your personality is important. All the teachers that I learned the most from were the ones I had the best relationships with. Instead of worrying about the other person, you can focus on the work.



I recently had a student who would not use the standard method for multiplication and insisted on using the box method. This went on for a month, me trying to explain how the standard method was easier, him not believing me. I would explain the method every time I saw him, but he was insistent. Then, one day, he was just using it. When I asked him about it he replied, "It's easier." I had a smile the rest of the day.
