About David
I am a math teacher who has moved on from the classroom but is still passionate about the subject and looking to help students in their mathematical endeavors.
I enjoy working with students and helping them to understand the "why" in mathematics instead of having students attempt to memorize math facts. When students reach that understanding it is very rewarding to see and be a part of their AHA moment.
I very much enjoyed math and science classes in high school but saw that a good many of my friends struggled in those topics, especially in math. I also have many teachers in my family and wanted to have a way to help students understand and enjoy a topic that I found so fascinating.
I am a certified secondary mathematics teacher in South Carolina. I have 11 years of experience in the classroom and have taught various subjects throughout my career (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus)

If a student is seeking general tutoring or test prep tutoring I will generally start with a diagnostic test to determine the student's current areas of strength. Then will review weak areas to get the student up to speed. If a student is seeking help in a specific topic I will go straight in to explaining what is necessary for that topic and will review other concepts as necessary for the specific topic help was requested.
I have worked with students of varying ability levels from those with special needs up to honors students.

Mr. Cattrell has helped me with my SAT tutoring. He’s very good at learning the ways that help your brain process information and he uses that to help you increase your understandings of different topics. He has helped me improve my skills and I feel more confident with the SAT!
Mr. Cattrell taught me different ways to approach problems and truly personalized lessons and explanations to fit my needs. He helped me better understand many math subjects as well as English portions of the SAT. Mr. Cattrell helped me gain so much confidence and improved my test taking strategies!
