About Grace

Hi! My name is Grace. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in math.
I've taught seventh grade math, I've tutored mathematics, and for the past five years, I've been teaching English online.
Now, I'm excited to be tutoring online because I feel like it combines all of the things I've enjoyed doing through these past nine years.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and an emphasis in Mathematics. I also have just over nine years of experience with tutoring math (3), teaching in the classroom (1) and teaching online (5).

First, I want to get to know the student. I strive to build a relationship with the student day one. I also have student take a short placement assessment so that I can guage what it is that they need to work on. We then make a plan for how to catch up or get ahead.
I have most frequently worked with students age 6 to 14. I have worked with very shy students as well as very high-energy students.
Find a teacher you feel good being around. Going to class or to a tutoring session should not feel like a jail sentence. It should feel like something to look forward to.
I finished a class with an online student the other day (with a different company). Before I could turn off my camera and microphone, her mom got my attention. She let me know that it would be our last class. I almost cried, but she thanked me and wanted to keep in touch afterward. I really love getting to build relationships with all of my students.

For now, I keep my lessons at under $40 an hour for the student if I can. This is something that I can negotiate with students on a case by case basis.
