About Sofia

Sofia started her career as math teacher, progressed into a STEM instructional coach, and eventually served as a school principal. Her focus has been to create teams and systems that work with the community, cultivate the excellence of young people, and move the needle on educational equity.

About the lesson

My approach is founded on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to explore mathematical concepts with confidence.

Teaching Method and Techniques:

Interactive Learning: I believe in fostering active participation from my students through interactive discussions, problem-solving sessions, and hands-on activities.
Visual Aids: I utilize visual aids such as diagrams, graphs, and multimedia resources to enhance understanding and make abstract concepts more tangible.
Real-World Applications: I emphasize the practical applications of mathematical concepts, helping students see the relevance of what they're learning in their everyday lives and future careers.

Typical Lesson Plan:

Introduction and Review: I begin each lesson by reviewing previous concepts to reinforce learning and provide continuity.
Concept Exploration: I introduce new topics or delve deeper into existing ones, breaking down complex ideas into manageable parts.
Guided Practice: Students engage in guided practice exercises with my support, applying what they've learned and receiving feedback along the way.
Independent Practice: Students work on independent practice problems to solidify their understanding and build confidence.
Review and Feedback: I conclude the lesson by reviewing key takeaways, addressing any lingering questions or misconceptions, and providing constructive feedback.

What Sets Me Apart:

Holistic Support: I not only focus on academic mastery but also aim to cultivate critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a genuine passion for mathematics.
Flexibility and Adaptability: I am adaptable to different learning paces and styles, ensuring that students feel comfortable and supported throughout their learning journey.

Target Audience:

Middle and high school students seeking to improve their math grades or prepare for standardized tests (e.g., SAT, ACT).

College students tackling introductory or advanced mathematics courses.
