About Deirdre

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher entering my seventh year of teaching. I have experience teaching all class levels from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, and I have also taught internationally in Australia, which has broadened my understanding of different curricula and teaching approaches.

I achieved a high grade in Higher Level Irish in my Leaving Certificate and have a strong interest in the language. I also attended the Gaeltacht and held the role of Cinnire Tí (house prefect), which further strengthened my fluency and confidence in spoken Irish.

I am passionate about creating a positive, supportive learning environment where children feel confident, motivated, and capable of achieving their best. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners and abilities, including children who require additional support as well as those who benefit from extension and challenge.

My teaching style is calm, structured, and child-centered. I place strong emphasis on building confidence, developing core skills, and making learning clear and accessible. I use a variety of teaching strategies to suit individual learning needs and ensure steady, meaningful progress.

I take pride in being professional, organized, and approachable. My aim is to support each child in reaching their full potential while fostering a genuine enjoyment of learning and long-term academic confidence.

About the lesson

Lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to each child’s individual needs. The focus is on building confidence around Irish, while strengthening key skills in a positive and encouraging learning environment. A range of teaching strategies are used, including hands-on activities, visual supports, oral language development, games-based learning, and focused practice in literacy and numeracy.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long and are adapted depending on the child’s age, attention span, and learning needs. Each session is planned to consolidate classroom learning, address specific areas of difficulty, and extend understanding where appropriate.

In Irish lessons, content can be adapted to include a balanced mix of oral, written, and conversational language work depending on the child’s individual needs and level. This ensures that children develop both confidence and competence across all areas of the language.

Overall, lessons are designed to be engaging, focused, and responsive to each learner, helping children make steady progress and feel more confident in their abilities.
