- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Maths and Statistics, 11+, 13+ Grammar School Maths Entrance, GCSE (New 9-1 specifications), IGCSE, International Baccalaureate and A-Levels (New syllabus Sept 2017)

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a B.Sc. (Mathematics 2:1) and I am a qualified teacher with a (QTS Qualified Teacher Status).

- How much do you charge?

My charges are between £35-65 per hour depending on the time of the year you require my services. I believe this to be excellent value for money. I guarantee your child will get their school's predicted grade (at least if not more). If you are aiming higher (which I presume you would be) then I can customize the tutoring program according to your child's needs. I will discuss this at the very beginning of the lesson and I keep you informed of their progress every half term at the least.

Tutoring is a customized service run per student. No two students are the same. Hence the amount of lesson planning and resource preparation for every student is different and my charges will vary accordingly. Please understand that I am not here to sell Homework books or revision guides or practice CDs/DVDs. I carefully plan lessons and prepare answers to questions which students have failed to get into their school environment or from their teacher.

My lessons are not a reactive response to student's queries. It is a well-planned and directed approach to achieve particular success criteria and the end of each and every hour. I would suggest that booking an early spot in the year at the beginning of September would guarantee a decent price tag as I intend to reward the commitments taken by parents.

The weekend charges are expensive in general and as fair and generous I would like to be I am tied up on negotiating prices for Weekend slots. I aim to provide quality tutoring services by honouring the commitment shown by my regular students and their parents.

I do not travel to students home. All the tutoring takes place at my residence in a pet free, quiet and peaceful learning environment. At home, I also have a wealth of resources to offer students who commit to tutoring in this fashion.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at home in one to one, pair and small groups of no more than 5 at times of exams. I also teach on-line one to one and in groups.

New Special introduction: I offer two hours of intense maths tutoring for GCSE and A Levels in a group setting. Prices for GCSE and A-levels vary.
Please consult me for the pricing. The group session is a maximum of 4 students together. They are grouped according to years and their level of ability as given by the school grades.

Tuition in a Pair. I pair up students of the same year group and give them more tutor time. The lessons are made longer by 15-30 minutes and this extra time is utilized to increase the student's interaction time with me. This is very cost effective also as students gain more tutor time and this is more value for your time and money.

- When are you available?

I am free evenings, weekdays and weekends.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I can teach any age. Preferred 11+, 13+, GCSE, IB and A Levels.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

GCSE, IGCSE, A-Levels, Further Maths, Statistics, International Baccalaureate, 11+ and 13+ Entrance exams, University Maths.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I use an interactive whiteboard along with Skype for crystal clear Audio. Students will need a headset and a microphone to be able to communicate effectively.

About Kamal

- What kind of experience do you have?

Apart from being a grammar school teacher, I have through experience in the assessment of Maths curriculum. Having marked enormous amounts of material I thoroughly understand what an examiner would be looking for when they are marking a maths paper.

I teach my students the exact methods, which will help them, score high marks (by eliminating all those silly mistakes, which you probably want to tell me about!). There is a set method, which I teach my students, which help them, get rid of this habit of making silly mistakes. I teach them the skill to analyse a maths problem at a glance and they can determine how much time and effort they need to spend on a particular problem the moment they see the question. This is vital for exam success.

Do I use intelligent questioning to fine-tune their understanding but I also ensure they can apply their knowledge to real-life questions and solve any problem they might come across? I teach them the core skills needed to solve a problem and then they are presented with a set of increasingly difficult problems to try on their own. This has helped all my students keep their engagement in the lessons and explore their skill set further even if it means making mistakes. I preach, "Correcting the mistakes you have already made in the exams is the fastest way to learn".

So far I have tutored over 150 students on a 1-1 basis in the past 10 years alone. This is over 6000 hours of tutoring (40 weeks for each student a year X 150 students = 6000 hours)!

Moreover, at school, I am required to deliver outstanding lessons in accordance with the OFSTED Framework. Hence I have an accurate and in-depth knowledge of the most recent syllabus changes and the exam boards. That combined with my daily touch of solid Maths puts myself in a very strong position to very quickly and thoroughly assess the educational needs of a student and then build upon their strengths. My lessons are Laser sharp and objective oriented wherein I intend to achieve a very concrete goal at the end of each of my tutoring sessions.

• Teaching Pedagogy: The vast majority of One-2-One tutors simply 'turn-up-and-teach' without adequate preparation. Maths is mostly about 'understanding', and less about 'throw up facts'. A tutor gets ONE CHANCE to impart 'understanding' in a clear and coherent way. Not having prepared and risking an incomplete, confused or incoherent explanation instils confusion in the student, rather than confidence.

• Regular feedback and homework: Most tutors either set no homework at all or thoughtlessly set exercises from a textbook containing inappropriate questions. My homework is specifically written to complement the lesson, containing some questions designed for routine practice and some questions designed to challenge the student; encouraging them to 'think' and to develop their logical capacity.

• Exam Practice: I give students plenty of past paper practice – but only at the right time, once they have a deep understanding of all of the individual topics within the syllabus. Far too many tutors use exam papers to 'teach' from, which means they are setting papers when the student isn't ready: The upshot of that is the student's scores fluctuate wildly and their confidence is destroyed.
The lessons are invigorating, inspirational and cutting edge as I keep a very thorough hold on my subject.

With this immense experience, I have developed an approach which is very simple. I make the lessons fun and engaging. I try to promote interest in the subject so learning Maths becomes fun and an ongoing natural process. Students take this into the school environment and start seeing the results immediately. This reduces the burden from Maths and hence my students can focus on other subjects and achieve well holistically. (It's not about getting an A* just in Maths. I know that!!)

1) Whilst your first trial lesson is free, please note that the lesson price is for a group of 2-3 students. The one to one price varies from £45 to 70 an hour. I am happy to discuss your requirements and then advise on it.

2) Please note that online lessons are in a group of 2-3 as well.

    When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

    I have studied Maths at University and took my very first lesson in February 2001. Ever since then I have been into teaching and tutoring.

    I like to discuss the applications of quadratic graphs and Calculus in real life. Also, the use of statistics in modern-day approximation techniques is really fascinating.

    My science teacher at school was a teacher who really inspired me.
