About Louise
Teaching experience:
I am a fully qualified teacher, specialising in Physics but with experience teaching Maths and all three Sciences up to GCSE level and Physics up to A-level. I trained with the Gorse SCITT, meaning I gained my PGCE qualification by teaching in state schools in Leeds rather than by spending time at university.
I have taught classes ranging in size, age and ability, including many students with English as an additional language. I ran one-to-one and small group interventions and found these to be very effective at improving students' motivation and grades. I have also worked as a teaching assistant in primary schools and assisted sixth form students with their UCAS applications.
My pupils made good or outstanding progress across the board and I am especially proud of my two Year 11 Triple Science groups, who got the results they deserved this summer.
Education:
- First class integrated Masters degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Leeds, including a year studying abroad in Budapest.
- Natural Sciences prizewinner.
- My research project involved combining my knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science to write a 15000 word dissertation on my experiments with nanocarbon aerogels.
- Whilst at university, I mentored younger students in small groups, helping with memorising information and explaining trickier concepts.
A-levels: Maths A* Chemistry A* Physics A General Studies A History A (AS-level)
GCSEs: 10 A* grades including Maths, Triple Science and English Language
English Literature A Drama A
I hold an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate.

I am a fully qualified secondary Science and Maths teacher based in Leeds.
What are you like as a tutor?
I only use methods that are proven to work. I spend time looking over current educational research and implement these techniques in lessons. So whether you need help with intensive revision before exams or regular sessions to consolidate learning, you know that we will be using the most effective strategies possible.
I think that the most important trait a tutor must have is flexibility. Each student will learn in a different way and therefore requires a unique approach. I constantly adapt my teaching to respond to students' needs, whether that means more practice, more discussion, more training in exam technique, or whatever is most helpful for you.
I like science lessons to be hands on and am always looking for experiments that we can do at home to help bring the most abstract concepts to life. Similarly, maths can so often be made boring in school by just teaching methods - I want students to know how and why maths is relevant to their daily life. The more fun the lesson, the more memorable the knowledge gained!
When can we have lessons?
Weekdays - daytime and evening
What qualifications can you prepare me for?
GCSE (Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics including Triple Science)
University exams (Maths, Chemistry, Physics - depending on module, please ask!)
Who do you teach?
School pupils aged 10 - 18 years
University students
Mature students
Where do you teach?
I can tutor at my own home or at yours. I am an environmentalist so I use an electric bike to get around. I can travel for up to 5 miles from Chapel Allerton (LS7). Please ask if you are unsure!
Which exam boards can you help with?
I have personal experience with Edexcel and AQA and the ability to adapt to other exam boards.
I have marked Triple Science Physics papers for Edexcel so understand the common mistakes that students make and can help you avoid them.
Any questions, just ask!

Details
My maximum travel distance - on my electric bike! - is 5 miles from Chapel Allerton (LS7). A small charge may be added if the house is very far from mine but please ask and we can arrange something.
All students pay the same price regardless of their level.
If a lesson is cancelled less than 48 hours in advance, the fee will still be charged, unless the lesson is rearranged for later that same week.
