Galway and the acting scene 

Galway is well known for its music and being a university town, but it's also equally famous for its many cultural festivals, with it hosting “an average of 122 different festivals and events each year.” 

Many of these events are to do with theatre and this July, there are 9 different theatre acts alone for the Galway International Arts Festival this year. As well as theatre-related events, there are many casting agencies and productions in Galway with many roles being offered at any given time.  

Galway really is a central location for finding acting opportunities for theatre, tv series, advertisements, films and music videos. The opportunities and market are all there.  

It's also a location that offers many acting opportunities in projects that are related to Irish culture which can be particularly interesting and enticing for acting students and anyone passionate about Irish culture and being able to actively participate and add to it.  

An example of some of the available projects and casting opportunities in Galway right now are: plays, reading poetry on film, Irish speakers for roles in a television series, camp leaders, acting and singing and even more!

Something that every successful or aspiring actor has to go through is auditions. They are important and necessary for actors and performers and doing well is the key to getting the part that you want.  

Due to their importance, it's very wise to do as much preparation for them and there is some general advice and tips that can greatly improve your outcome!   Some of the things that our tutors can do to help you prepare for auditions are: focusing on what the audition piece is or may be and helping you with your voice, the intention of the piece and to receive feedback so that you can do your best representation of a character. 

With a tutor’s help, you can be as confident and prepared as possible for your possible auditions but the help doesn’t stop there. Advice and aid can also be given to those who are already playing a character in a role in theatre, film, tv or whatever your case may be.  

An example of this help would be: acting techniques and devices to make settling into a role easier and help you to express that character and your style, public speaking skills and self-expression.  

If it so interests you, you’ll also be able to find tutors who help with designing your own workshops and pieces and being able to be taught what works and what doesn’t when designing your pieces and learning techniques of directing and how best to teach others.
