Why you should consider getting acting classes

If you are hoping to get into the profession either as a hobby or career, getting advice on how best to be noticed and chosen for parts, learning how to do well in auditions and learning general acting tips and advice is a smart place to start.

If you are new to acting then it may feel quite overwhelming, especially when comparing yourself to others. Get an introduction to it by learning calming exercises from tutors as well as general advice on how to get into a character and different subtle ways of expressing various emotions and intents that you may not have thought of by yourself. By starting off your acting journey with advice from tutors (with many being or having been actors themselves) with many years of experience, you’ll be starting off with the best start possible, making the process of trying to join and start in pieces to be easier and more enjoyable.

Even if you have been acting for some time now, there is often always something that can be improved upon, and getting feedback from someone (a tutor) who hasn’t seen you perform before could lead to certain things that you never realised, being noticed and improved upon.

Why starting acting classes is a good idea

Even if you don’t plan on making acting your career or dream, it can still be a very worthwhile endeavour. Through learning how to express yourself and convey a wide range of emotions and personalities you will end up learning more about yourself and becoming more self-aware of how you carry yourself and behave around others.

It can also make you more confident in yourself as a result, allowing you to do better in interviews and public speaking for example. Also, if you practice another art such as singing, by taking acting classes, you will be able to perform your singing better and learn not just how to sing, but how to make a real performance out of it!

As you can see, it can be a very fun hobby where you learn lots of different skills that can benefit you in your life in lots of surprising ways.

Getting help for auditions

One of the most important times for an actor is audition time. To get the role that you want, anyone in that situation will do their best, so why not get extra help and preparation to get as close to your best and maybe even improve it?

By getting guidance from one of our experienced tutors you will be able to learn audition do’s and don’ts. The best way to prepare is by properly analysing the audition piece and how your audition character fits into it. This will mean that when you perform it, you will have a clearer vision of how your character fits into it, meaning that you will be able to express it more accurately.

Your tutor will also have general advice and feedback on your technique as well as facial and body expressions as it can be difficult when examining yourself what you may be doing wrong or what you could improve.

 Acting in Waterford

If you are looking for a place where you can perform, then Waterford certainly has some nice options. At the Waterford Academy of Music and Arts, they have a very friendly artist setup where performers can use their stage to do all sorts of performances such as plays and musicals, allowing locals to see and appreciate local and national talent, thereby maybe encouraging a new generation of actors. They also rent out practice studios and spaces to design performances.

Also in Waterford, there are some big theatres such as Theatre box stage school and Theatre Royal Waterford, giving inspiration to upcoming directors and artists as well as helping to spread an appreciation of the arts.

Hopefully, interest continues to rise and our tutors will be there to help anyone who wants an extra helping hand.
