FAQ's

🎭 Can you learn acting by yourself?

You can make real progress in acting on your own with the right habits.

  • Study scripts closely: study how characters think, speak and react.
  • Rehearse monologues: repeat short pieces until the lines feel natural and truthful.
  • Watch human behaviour: notice how emotion shows in posture, voice and gesture.
  • Build vocal and physical control: stretch and loosen up before you rehearse any scene.

Still, a private acting coach gives feedback you simply cannot get alone.

💰 How much should I expect to pay for acting lessons in Limerick?

In Limerick, expect to pay about €55/h for an hour of acting.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

  • Your level: your current level (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
  • The coach's background: their training, stage and screen experience.
  • Lesson frequency: whether you choose one-off or regular lessons.
  • Where lessons happen: online, at home or at the tutor's studio.

Most coaches offer a free trial lesson so you can test their approach.

🎬 Can you start acting in your late twenties?

No, 27 is not too late to start acting at all.

  • Maturity is an asset: older beginners draw on genuine feelings and relationships.
  • Roles exist for every age: directors cast all ages, not just young faces.
  • Technique can be trained: voice, presence and movement develop with steady training.
  • Focus pays off: focused effort closes the gap with younger beginners.

A private tutor helps you build skills quickly, whatever your starting age.

What do our acting tutors teach?

We have tutors that over the years have specialised in different mediums and areas of expertise. A brief summary of what some of our acting tutors teach to their students is: learning how to improvise better, to research characters and to apply your own expression on them, how to analyse a piece so that your representation of a character makes sense and improves the piece, general acting advice and feedback for various types of acting such as theatre, film, advertisements, musical theatre and more.

The list is extensive and there will be a tutor for you, no matter what you are looking for help in. Some of our tutors are happy to help you learn how to design and develop your own workshops, classes and projects.

Each tutor will have their own specifics in what they teach and how they do it, so make sure to have a good look through so that you can find the perfect tutor for you.

The backgrounds of our acting tutors

For so many aspects of acting to be taught, it's no surprise that our tutors have varied backgrounds. We have tutors with many years of experience in teaching the subject itself and helping develop the next wave of interested students, then there are the tutors who have experience in participating in many different mediums and who will be able to give you acting advice for specific projects and then there are tutors who have focused in or directing their own work and pieces and then there are the tutors in between.

Whatever your needs or specific interest is, you won't have to look far to find the right tutor for you.

Getting help for auditions

A wise and potentially life-changing time to get extra preparation and lessons on your acting is when preparing for an upcoming audition! It is the deciding factor on you being able to participate in a piece that you want or to portray a specific character that you desire to play. In other words, it's something that you would want an extra edge in and you would want to be performing at the best you can for it.

There are a few things that one can do to improve the odds of success and the overall quality of the audition. Analyse the subject of the audition (if you have that information), analyse the character or the intent that you want to show and finally, feedback on your performance and approach. This is how our tutors would help you.

If the audition subject is revealed to you before the day itself, then breaking it down and examining what it's about will help you to understand and to gain a better look at how you and your character/performance fit into it, which will allow you to better design your approach to the character/performance hopefully leading to a more accurate and engaging performance.

With the help of a tutor who has had years of auditions, playing characters and perhaps even designing works of their own, their advice and experience will prove very insightful and will help you to see things that you may not have seen yourself, thereby finding improvements and suggestions that could give you that extra lift.

Getting feedback from your tutor will also mean you can fix some mistakes that you may not have seen yourself and improve upon your intended performance. It's also likely that they will have some good pointers on some techniques and just as importantly, ways for you to feel less nervous and more confident in yourself and your acting.
