Ennis is a cultural bedrock for the Irish language. The county has a well-known reputation for being soaked in culture and the Ennis county council has had multiple successful programs and campaigns for promoting the use of Irish. So if anyone was to learn or improve their Irish, it would make sense it would be someone from Clare. Gaeilge is commonly disliked by Secondary school students but how can this be fixed?
Irish is taught in such a way that makes it difficult to learn or grasp. By the time most of you (students) reach secondary school, your grammar is in pieces but the teachers have to work on the assumption that you have a minimum level to build off. Some Junior Cert teachers have to adapt by basically overwriting/re-learning everything that we have done in primary school. However, in some cases, there is not enough time to do this and some difficult concepts are even expanded upon. This makes the whole situation more of a mess. Gendered grammar is only taught to the most capable of students formerly despite it being a core part of the language. Can you imagine trying to learn french without knowing about gender differentiation? A lot of it would be confusing. All of this motivates memorization above comprehension. Hence, the disliked nature of Irish among many students.
How can this be fixed? Well unless you’re able to bring reform to the entire education system, a tutor is the best answer. If you have lots of time and most importantly passion, you can learn Irish yourself and with whatever your usual teachers give you but, for a lot of people, they don’t have both of these things. They simply need the points, want to pass or are interested in exploring their heritage. If any of this applies to you, a Superprof tutor would be perfect to help you learn Gaeilge today!
There are multiple ways a tutor can help you with learning Gaeilge. If you’re an independent learner, who prefers to tackle difficult subjects by yourself, a tutor is perfect for you. Tutors don’t have to replace your Irish teachers, they are more of a supplement in terms of teaching. Reinforcing material or explaining things from a different viewpoint. This is why even if you’re an independent learner a tutor would still work well, they can correct you when you need it, help you break through any roadblocks and they instil a sense of discipline with their weekly/monthly meetings. Tutors work best when you let them help you.
If you’re doing the Irish language for your LC or JC, private grinds can be invaluable to learning Gaeilge. Learning a language in a school setting can often be restrictive as a teacher has to teach for the average level in the class, they have to balance the curriculum with class time and they can only spend so much time on individual students. Entrusting a lot of the work and revision to the student. This is not the best way to learn a language and a tutor provides solutions to all of these problems. You can get a tutor for any level of Irish, they can help you in specific areas, and they provide a disciplined routine and a more specific roadmap for yourself. A native speaker can help you master the sounds of Irish, this is the next best option short of going to a Gaeltacht! All of this means private lessons with a Superprof Tutor in Ennis are the way to go if you want to pass your exams!
Superprof allows you to specify Ennis or any other city in Ireland for where you want to find your tutor, any subject you want including Gaeilge can be found. Each tutor is shown with their price if the first lesson is free, their name, if they can teach in person and/or online and of course their reviews by previous students. Once you’ve filtered your choices by this point you can directly message your tutors to find out more about their unique teaching styles, availability and generally more about the person, leave the class behind and start learning better now!
