Incorporate storytelling to make connections to real-world scenarios is the way I was taught math and physics and I can tell you, I can still solve those complex questions without having to brush up my concepts. That is the best strategy to learn these subjects. I usually accompany this with demonstration, brainstorming and using visuals and images.
