About Niall

About me: My name is Niall, 29 years old, I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2018, where I began tutoring Maths and Sciences. I maintain a small cohort of pupils each year with whom I work with closesly one-on-one, tailoring classes around their needs and focusing on problem areas, bringing them up to and through their examinations.

I have experience working as a teacher in numerous capacities and have worked with children at all ages. As a private tutor I have 10+ experience working with students across an assortment of ages and abilities, ranging from Maths and Science at GCSE and A-Level to Philosophy at an Undergraduate level. As a teachers assistant at the Frank Barnes School For Deaf Children I worked one-to-one with Year 6 children with hearing disabilities across many subjects: predominantly but not exclusively maths, critical thinking and English language skills. As a volunteer working with SALVE International, a UK based charity that works with street connected children in Jinja, Uganda I worked with children aged ten to eighteen, boys and girls, organising and teaching classes.

A stitch in time saves nine: I organise my classes to complement the work students perform at school. I follow what my students are working on in class and help them to solidify their understanding of the topics as they work through them, while also periodically revisiting these topics to ensure retention.

If there are topics that require greater attention, I will design a series of classes for my students, affording them the opportunity to learn at their own pace and ask as many questions as they feel necessary.

In the run-up to exam season, I help my students prepare by having them sit mock exams for me. I mark their papers and address with them any gaps that still remain in their knowledge or understanding of the theory.
