About Emma

I chose to study Physics for my degree in part due to the enthusiasm of my A level teachers for their subject, and hope that I can inspire the same enthusiasm in my students. I enjoy helping students to improve their confidence and have taught maths, physics and computer science in the classroom for over ten years, most recently as Head of Maths & Computing. I have always tutored alongside full-time teaching but am now focusing on tutoring full time.

Qualified teacher with a PGCE from Aberystwyth University and a PhD and MPhys in Physics from Cardiff University.

About the lesson

As an A-level maths examiner, I’ve gained a deep understanding of the common mistakes and misconceptions that students make. I know exactly where marks are often lost, and I can help you avoid those pitfalls. I also have a keen eye for what examiners are looking for in student answers, and I can help you to learn how to interpret mark schemes with ease. This knowledge is invaluable when it comes to preparing for exams.

I’m skilled in supporting students with various Additional Learning Needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia. I believe in a visual approach to teaching, focusing on conceptual understanding. This helps my students grasp the reasoning behind different calculation methods and concepts, making it easier to remember and apply them effectively.

I’m happy to teach Maths and Physics from primary through Key Stage 3 to GCSE, IGCSE, A-level, and International Baccalaureate (IB). I also teach Computer Science to GCSE level. I can adapt materials to suit any exam board.
