About Dominic

I have worked in interdisciplinary projects in international research laboratories, and developed a broad scientific remit, spanning the fields of chemistry, earth science, materials science, biology and computer science. It is from this unique vantage point that I am able to put a student’s syllabus in a wider context and motivate their learning.

I understand that applying to the top academic institutions can be stressful, particularly when they require flawless grades and extra rounds of tests and interviews. I know because I’ve been there! Having spent the past four years at a top institution, working alongside my former interviewers, I’ve gained a unique insight into this application process. I can now guide students at every stage of the process so that they are well-prepared and confident!

And through my passion for teaching challenging concepts, I have developed over 400 hours of tutoring experience, each with highly satisfied students that went on to achieve the top grades. I gladly share previous reviews with any potential students.

I love problem-solving. Give me a riddle, a conundrum, or a brain teaser and you’ll find me happily entertained for hours. I specialised in physics in my academic studies because of my profound interest in how problem-solving skills can be used to better understand the universe we inhabit. And if there is one thing I love more than doing the problem solving, it's explaining how the problem-solving works to the people who care.

I tailor every session based on the particular needs of the student, whether it be a topic that remains unclear or a problem that proves challenging to solve. I put an emphasis on teaching how to truly understand the material so that even the most challenging exam questions start to seem straightforward.

Where appropriate, I approach the subject matter from different angles and work through example problems of increasing complexity, so that the student gains a complete understanding of the material. If a brief detour away from the syllabus is insightful then I will not shy away from doing so, because ultimately I firmly believe that the best academic gains are made when the student sees the deeper structure behind the syllabus.

Most academic progress happens backstage when a student has time to reflect on what they’ve just learnt. That’s why I provide my students with plenty of topic-specific learning resources and example questions so that they can cement an understanding of challenging concepts.

My sessions are delivered through the BitPaper collaborative whiteboard: an online tool that has e-inking, PDF, image, and HD video and audio support. Students just need to create a free account before starting.
