About Chloe

I am now entering the final year of my PhD study at the University of Oxford. Having experienced the UK A-levels (scored 5A*s in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths and F. Maths) and IGCSE myself, I understand where things could get tricky for students. Over the past 3 years of tutoring, I have developed different tips and strategies in assisting students to master these conceptual ideas. Students are welcome to ask questions anytime outside tutoring session through any social media platform they prefer. Last year, I had the honour to be one of the student tutors at "Preparing for the PAT" course offered by the University of Oxford. My experience teaching the course would be useful in guiding students through the application process. Last but not the least, I am enthusiastic in promoting Chinese culture and language. Merit results were achieved in the HKEAA Putonghua Proficiency Test, proving my ability to fluently speak, transcript and read in Mandarin Chinese, despite my mother language being Cantonese. In my lessons, I focus on ensuring that students first develop a clear and solid conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts. We then work through example questions together to ensure they can apply mathematical manipulations effectively. Once the student is confident, we move on to more challenging, unguided practice, allowing them to independently reinforce what they have learned and build their problem-solving skills. I firmly believe that with the right approach, any student can master mathematics at the pre-university level. My methodology emphasises helping students develop a systematic way of identifying the best solution by finding the most effective mathematical procedures to tackle each question. Through this structured approach, I aim to make mathematics more accessible and less intimidating, fostering not just rote learning but genuine comprehension. That said, student cooperation and commitment outside of our lessons are crucial. I encourage students to devote time to completing homework and revising on their own to fully digest and retain the material covered during our sessions. With over 3 years of experience teaching A-level maths, I draw on my own academic success—achieving over 97% UMS with two A* grades in Maths and Further Maths A-levels—to guide students. I use analogies tailored to each student's perspective to explain mathematical concepts, making complex ideas easier to grasp. Additionally, I am always open to discussing with students and parents the teaching style that best suits the student's needs, ensuring our lessons are as effective and efficient as possible.
