About Abel
Hi! I have loved teaching in various contexts for almost a decade now and would love to be part of your learning journey.
I have taught a diverse set of students: from 12 years old to 32, from academically precocious but bored to struggling to keep up. I have also taught mathematics, physics and computing using various curricula including Ontario Curriculum, Common Core, SPM, IGCSE, A level, IB, AP and various standardized tests including SAT, ACT, GMAT and GRE. This has given me an appreciation for the wide range of needs, habits, abilities, interests and backgrounds that students can have and made me a firm believer that everyone benefits from an educator that champions them.

I am a firm believer that all students would do better if they could and that it is an educator’s job to figure out what is standing in their way. Thus, I approach my sessions with a holistic and empathetic view of the student as an individual with needs and circumstances that our lessons have to fit. This means I prioritize listening to my students to figure out where they are as well as what their academic and non-academic goals are.
Wherever possible, I use technology, simulations, animations, hands-on experiments and activities to drive understanding. I tend to keep my sessions conversational and informal so my students can relax and do their best.
My typical sessions last 1 - 2 hours and generally aim to address deeper conceptual understanding. Nonetheless,
I understand that mastery of particular techniques and competencies are important for successful and confident learning. Above all else, I am always student-need focused and understand the value of meeting the student where they are - even if that means reviewing material a few years back. I always include frequent check-ins (formal and informal) to ensure appropriate pace.
