About Helena

Helena began her musical studies at the age of 11 with pianist Savka Konjikusic, at the D. Dinis Conservatory, with whom she completed her secondary music education.
She holds a Bachelor Degree in Music from the Lisbon College of Music and a Masters in Music Education from the University of Aveiro.
Her Master's Degree in Music Education stands out for her investigation titled “Functional Anatomy and Body Awareness in Performance: strategies for preventing physical problems in pianists", rated 19 (out of 20), and her internship as a piano teacher rated 20 (out of 20). Helena was later invited to present her research at the 2nd Musical Psychophysiology Conference, at the University of Minho, Portugal.
Helena is currently finishing her Masters in Music at the Conservatorium Maastricht, Netherlands, in the class of pianist Katia Veekmans. She is studying for a PhD in Musical Sciences - Teaching and Psychology of Music and a Postgraduate Degree in Music in Childhood: Intervention and Research, at Universidade Nova de Lisbon.

Her work in chamber music has been diversified, having participated in several projects, including the premieres of works by young Portuguese composers. As part of chamber music projects, Helena was guided by Irene Lima, Clélia Vital, Nuno Inácio, Alexandra Mendes, Roberto Valdes, Marc Tooten, Henk Guittart and Anastasia Safonova. She has also participated in solo piano masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as Artur Pizarro, Vladimir Tropp, Boris Berman, José Feghali, Noriko Ogawa, Naum Grubert, Enrico Pace, Konstantin Bogino and Valentina Berman, as well as chamber music masterclasses with Michael Uhde, Olga Pratts, Xenia Gamaris, Hardy Rittner and Vitaly Samoshko.

She has performed as a soloist and in chamber music in several places in Portugal, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium and England, such as: Teatro Malaposta, Clube Setubalense, Teatro São Luiz, Music Museum, Municipal Theater of Almada, Casa-Museu Bissaya Barreto, Miguel Franco Theater, Center Céramique (Maastricht), Kloosterkerk (Valkenburg), Lutherse Kerk (Maastricht), Theater Heerlen, Folkets Hus (Vänersborg), De Velinx (Tongeren), St. Leonard's Church (Seaford).

Passionate about sharing music and teaching, Helena has also developed a vast experience as a teacher since 2007 in music conservatories, academies and private classes.

About the lesson

With over 14 years of experience in specialized music education, being a teacher is one of my passions! I teach people of all levels and ages.

I have been dedicated to teaching classical music since 2007 and I took a Masters in Music Teaching at the University of Aveiro. I have also gained extensive experience as a piano teacher in conservatories, academies and private lessons.

I studied from a young age with excellent pianists and pedagogues, such as Savka Konjikusic and Katia Veekmans, and participated in several piano masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as Artur Pizarro, Vladimir Tropp, Boris Berman, José Feghali, Noriko Ogawa, Naum Grubert, Enrico Pace, Konstantin Bogino, Valentina Berman, Michael Uhde, Hardy Rittner and Vitaly Samoshko.

This academically, musical and professional path has allowed me to develop a wide range of musical, technical, pedagogical and personal skills which I apply to the classes I teach, in an individualised approach and according to the interests, levels and learning goals of each student.
