About Willa

I’m a piano teacher with over 9 years of experience teaching both in-person and online, and I hold a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a focus on Pedagogy. My teaching philosophy centers on helping students become fluent sight-readers, confident interpreters, and thoughtful musicians. I specialize in score analysis and guiding students through the complexities of classical repertoire, from early works to Romantic and modern masterpieces. I tailor each lesson to fit the individual, combining technique, music theory, and history in a well-rounded approach. My students benefit from targeted finger exercises, period performance practices, and in-depth discussions of style and interpretation. I believe that understanding the context of a piece brings greater meaning to how it’s played. Whether working on phrasing, voicing, or historical nuance, I offer strategies that help music come alive. I’ve had the joy of teaching students across all levels, from absolute beginners to professional classical pianists. My goal is to support growth at every stage and to foster a lifelong connection to music. About the lesson

My teaching approach focuses on connecting music theory with real playing at the piano. I believe theory should feel useful, not confusing. That’s why I teach it through hands-on work with chord progressions, inversions, and harmonic analysis—right at the keyboard. We explore how each concept sounds, looks, and feels under your fingers. This makes learning more engaging and memorable.

I’m especially strong in guiding Exam Takers and Classical Performers who want to deepen their understanding and improve their performance. Lessons are structured to match your pace, with clear explanations and targeted exercises. We use simple tools to analyze what you're playing and why it works. I show how theory supports phrasing, expression, and musical choices.

We also cover the basics of composition and improvisation to help you apply what you've learned creatively. Whether you’re preparing for an exam or building a performance, you’ll grow in confidence and musical insight. My goal is to help you play smarter, not just harder.
