I am a DPhil (PhD) at Oxford and a teacher at LSE, have master’s degrees from LSE and Peking University, and an undergraduate degree from UIBE. I have worked across China and in the UK, but most of my teaching nowadays takes place online via Zoom.

I have been giving English lessons for 10 years and most of my students have stayed with me for 4-8 years, having gone from complete beginners to gaining entry into the best universities like LSE, UC Irvine, UCLA, Warwick, the Sorbonne, among others. Apart from my language lessons, I have been teaching data engineering and statistics at LSE and Oxford. A typical lesson (1.5-2hrs) is based on Oxford textbooks like the English File or test materials, depending on the student’s requirements and language level — we shall determine the best way forward during our first class. For 4 years, I was a judge and tutor at an English-language talent show (希望之星) on China Central Television. Speaking both Mandarin Chinese and Russian, I can spot many recurring mistakes given the structure of both languages and know surefire ways to correct them. I pay particular attention to teaching phonetics, pronunciation, and vocabulary with some etymology (the origins of words) to make sure that students are well-prepared for actual real-world scenarios as well as language tests like IELTS, Cambridge, and TOEFL.
