About Charles

Hi, I'm Charles! I'm a recent Knox Grammar graduate from the Hills District, and I'm heading into medicine in 2027.

I've been tutoring for 3 years, and it's genuinely one of my favorite things to do. There's nothing better than seeing a student who was dreading math walk into an exam feeling confident and prepared. I know what it takes to do well because I've just been through it myself: I was awarded Dux of the School (STEM), placed 7th in the state in HSC Mathematics Advanced, ranked 1st in my cohort in Biology and French, and scored 2610 in the UCAT.

I take tutoring seriously as a professional service. I'm a registered sole trader, I keep clear records of every lesson, I communicate regularly with parents, and I always turn up prepared. My Working With Children Check application is in progress.

At school I was a House Captain, a debater and a Cadets section commander, and I volunteered as a carer at a camp for children with disabilities. These experiences taught me to be patient, encouraging and to adapt to every student's needs, whether they're catching up or aiming for the top marks.

Outside of study I play basketball and football and play in my school's symphony orchestra, so I understand how hard it can be to balance school with everything else.

I'd love to help you reach your goals. Send me a message to arrange a free 15 minute chat!

My approach

I focus on real understanding, not memorising. I explain why each method works, then build skills step by step until students can solve unfamiliar problems on their own. Every lesson is tailored to the student, whether that means filling gaps from earlier years, getting ahead of school content, or polishing exam technique for top marks.

How a lesson works

Our first lesson starts with a short diagnostic so I can see exactly where your strengths and gaps are, and we set clear goals together. After that, each lesson follows a simple structure: a quick review of last week, new content or targeted revision, then practice questions with feedback as you work. I set short homework so progress continues between lessons, and I'm happy to send parents a brief update after each session.

For HSC students, I use NESA past papers and marking guidelines so you learn exactly what markers are looking for, how to set out full-mark solutions, and how to manage time in the exam.

Lesson length

Lessons are usually 1 hour. For HSC and Extension 1 students I recommend 1.5 hours, which gives enough time for both new content and exam-style practice.

My qualifications and experience

I was awarded Dux of the School (STEM) at Knox Grammar in 2026. I accelerated in Mathematics Advanced, placed 7th in the state, ranked 1st in my school cohort and received the school prize for Mathematics Advanced. In Year 12 I ranked in the top 3 of 108 students in Mathematics Extension 1, and I received a High Distinction in the Australian Mathematics Competition. I have 3 years of tutoring experience and I'm heading into medicine in 2027.

Having just finished the HSC myself, I know the current syllabus and assessment style inside out, and I understand the pressure students are under.
