About Naina
Your instructor has: • Over 30 years of teaching experience and 40 years as a performer and composer.
• Bachelor of Music, Master's in Music, and Ph.D. in Music Composition from Canadian and European institutions.
Dr. Naina Jinga is a dedicated musician, a passionate and compassionate teacher, who successfully combines the European and Canadian education, culture and experience. She teaches piano, music theory, ear training, composition, voice coaching, being also an appreciated accompanist for instrumentalists and singers, and more than anything, is a proud mother of two gifted children. Naina began playing the piano at the age of four, and writing her first compositions at twelve. She has appeared as a piano-soloist with Romanian orchestras, in solo piano recitals and piano-duos. She graduated from the "Gheorghe Dima" Academy of Music in 1991 (Bachelor of Music), where she was later appointed as Assistant Professor and, since 1998, as University lecturer. She holds a Master in Music (The University of Western Ontario) and a Ph.D. in Composition (“Gh. Dima” Academy of Music, Cluj, Romania) with a “Magna cum Laude”. Other studies have included completion of an artistic residency at the Banff Arts Centre (1999) and in Krumlov (Czech Republic, 1998). She has written extensively in instrumental, vocal, choral, chamber music and orchestral genres with performances in Canada, Romania, Ukraine, France, Norway, Czech Republic, Australia, and elsewhere. Dr. Naina Jinga is also the recipient of many international awards and scholarships, among them, the Romanian Composers’ League Prize, the UNESCO award and scholarship, the Gold Award in the Instrumental Performance - Best Music Composer category (for her piano-ballade "Tango Interrupted") and also in the Instrumental Performance - Best Instrumental Performance Video (for her piano-ballade "Amalfi ... To Italy with Love") at the Lit Talent Awards organized in the United States. Naina Jinga has been fortunate enough to educate a very diverse group of elementary, middle and high school, as well as university students, teaching individual classes, small group or large classes (up to 60 students). Under her guidance, her students have achieved hundreds of awards, scholarships, trophies and gold medals at provincial and national levels, such as the Winnipeg Music Festival, Kiwanis Music Festival of London, Stratford, Toronto, Woodstock, St. Thomas, Young Artist Competition, Rotary Festival, Tauber Music Festival, or the prestigious Canadian Music Competition, as well as the highest honors from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada for their piano and theory examinations (99% of her students achieving marks above 80 in both piano and theory subjects), and have enjoyed their participation in numerous recitals and concerts. Throughout Naina’s teaching career, she has been driven to help students achieve their very best. Her goal is to instill a fine sense of music appreciation, while at the same time, teaching students about the technical aspects of music.
