About Victoria

I attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts as a Visual Arts major. Cardinal Carter is an arts high school that is consistently ranked among the top three best high schools of Toronto.
Throughout my six years at this school, I received an intensive and rigorous art education, which familiarized me well with a variety of artistic techniques, styles, mediums, and challenged me to think creatively. Apart from being challenged with many different kinds of artistic projects, our education also extensively covered art history. We were also instructed on how to teach art, if we were to become art teachers in the future.
Before attending this school, I attended a fine art studio for about 9 years. At that studio, I was introduced to the basics of art, and experimented with painting and drawing, learning how to use different kinds of mediums and techniques for each.
My teaching experience includes teaching students of various ages on how to play the cello, leading beginner to intermediate classes at the Toronto Singing Strings. As well, I have taught a few beginner violin lessons for young students.
I am currently enrolled in York University, completing my French Studies BA and concurrent education degree to become a french and art teacher.
I love art and with my extensive art education and previous teaching experience I am well equipped to pass on my knowledge and expertise with curious individuals.

About the lesson

I like to teach in a way that caters to a variety of learning types, generating a more diverse, inclusive and welcoming learning space. I use a variety of methods to engage various learners, including the use of visual aids, inquiry-based instruction, collaborative and interactive learning. I also make sure to provide feedback for my students, addressing mistakes and modelling through examples to clarify and ensure they're on the right track. I am also flexible and understanding with my students, placing great value in clear communication between the student and teacher. My goal is to guide students to success, but making sure the journey is a fun and positive experience!
A typical art class would include an introduction to the lesson, covering an overview or more thorough background of the topic, and answering any questions students have along the way. The creative and interactive component happens next. This is when students can apply the newly learned skills and experiment. Throughout this part, I would assist, answer any questions, provide helpful tips, and creatively challenge students by inquiry. Larger creative projects, or smaller exercises to practise techniques may be assigned, all depending on the students' needs and interest.
