About Matt
Hi, I’m Matt I am 23 years old, with a 1st class Masters Degree from Imperial College London in Electronic Engineering. I achieved six 9’s, four 8’s and one 7 at GCSE (10A*s, 1 A) and achieved A*AAA at A-Level, in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics.
I have recently graduated, and spent some time in my final year tutoring a local student in Physics. I discovered I thoroughly enjoyed preparing explanations and looking at content in different ways to really help students grasp the 'heart' of whatever they are studying, without the fluff or sometimes confusing jargon. Once this is achieved, everything else falls into place, and the details and exams become a breeze.

My tutoring is always delivered with three key aims in mind:
1) A strong focus on intuition. When I was studying for my GCSE’s, A-Levels and degree, I found it was very common for science and maths teachers to present the facts or formula first, then let the students struggle to piece the intuition together. While this suits some, I and many others learn better by leading with an intuitive grasp of the topic, then diving into the details. In my view, this puts the student in the right frame of mind and the details can naturally take hold. Without this intuitive grasp, the details can seem overwhelming and are not absorbed as easily.
2) A clear link to the specification. As many students know, having a good understanding of the content is just one piece of the puzzle. The other is putting that in the context of the exam board (Edexcel, AQA, …) and understanding what they specifically expect you to know, and how they typically design questions. When delivering my sessions, I always prepare for the students’ exact exam board and qualification, and base my set questions and explanations on that.
3) An understanding of the students’ preferences. I like to keep my lesson structures flexible. Some students in my experience prefer to focus on completing past paper questions, and I can help to guide them when they are stuck. Others prefer to focus on the content, and I can talk them through a difficult topic in a relaxed environment, and encourage them to ask questions when they get stuck. Either works, just let me know!
I hope you find my tutoring sessions, helpful, friendly and affordable. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to reach out!
