About Felix

I didn’t take the usual route into engineering. I started with an Access to Engineering diploma and A-level maths, then went on to a degree in Civil Engineering at Manchester, an MPhil in Nuclear Engineering at Cambridge and a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence at King’s College London. Because of that, I know what it’s like to find a subject hard at first and then get on top of it, and I enjoy helping students do the same.

I started my career as a geotechnical engineer, working on landslide repairs and large infrastructure projects including HS2. I then moved into data science and machine learning. Today I work as a machine learning engineer for a non-profit, building forecasting models for solar energy. Before that I was the first machine learning hire at a start-up, where I built their systems from scratch.

I use maths, physics and programming every day, so I can show students not just how to answer the question but why it matters and where it’s used in the real world.

I’m patient, reliable and well organised. I turn up on time, prepare for every lesson and keep parents updated on progress. My aim is for every student to leave each lesson more confident than when they arrived.

I’m a machine learning engineer with a Cambridge MPhil in Nuclear Engineering and a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence from King’s College London, both with Distinction. I write Python every day for work, building and testing forecasting models, so I teach computer science the way it’s actually used, not just from the textbook.

My lessons are built around the student. In the first session I find out where they are, what’s worrying them and what their exam board or course expects. From there I focus on understanding first, then plenty of practice with real exam questions so they learn how marks are given. I explain things step by step and check understanding as we go.

For A-level computer science I cover both the theory papers and the coursework project. The project is where many students get stuck, and I help them plan it, structure their code, test it properly and write it up clearly, while making sure the work stays their own.

For maths I tutor GCSE and A-level, either as steady weekly support or focused exam preparation.

For university students I help with first and second year maths, programming in Python, data science and machine learning, including support with coursework and projects.

Lessons are 60 minutes, or 90 minutes for coursework sessions. I teach online using a shared whiteboard and screen sharing, and in person around Tunbridge Wells.

Lessons suit students from Year 9 upwards, sixth formers, university students, and adults learning Python.
