About Stanley
I specialize in Advanced Data Analysis and software tools such as R, MATLAB, Python, SPSS, and STATA. My extensive background encompasses teaching a broad range of mathematics courses, from College Algebra to Advanced Linear Algebra and Number Theory. As a current Mathematics Lecturer at York College, I am deeply committed to creating an inclusive and interactive learning environment. My teaching and tutoring journey spans over a decade, during which I've had the opportunity to instruct a variety of classes, including College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and upper-level courses such as Introduction to Proof and Problem Solving, Advanced Linear Algebra, and Number Theory. I strive to make complex concepts accessible and engaging for my students. In addition to my college teaching experience, I have worked extensively as a tutor for high school students, particularly in test preparation for exams such as the Math SAT and AP Calculus. Understanding the significance of these tests in a student's academic journey, I am dedicated to equipping my students with the knowledge and strategies necessary to excel. My tutoring sessions provide a comprehensive review of relevant concepts and cover test-specific strategies to improve performance, helping students gain confidence and develop the problem-solving skills needed to tackle challenging questions effectively. Throughout my academic journey, while pursuing my Master's and PhD degrees, I have had the opportunity to instruct diverse classes. In both my lectures and tutoring sessions, my primary goal is to establish a welcoming and inclusive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions. I believe that active student participation is crucial, and I strive to make each tutoring session as interactive as possible, frequently pausing to address any inquiries and ensure that my students comprehend each step of the problem-solving process.

For New Students:
When I first meet a new student, I always introduce myself, sharing my background, teaching philosophy, and what they can expect from my sessions. I take the time to learn about their interests, academic goals, and any specific areas they struggle with. I use icebreakers to create a comfortable and relaxed environment. I then assess their current knowledge and skill level, and together, we set clear, achievable goals for their learning journey, both short-term and long-term. Based on this assessment, I develop a personalized curriculum that adapts to their learning style, whether it be visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. I encourage questions and foster an environment where they feel comfortable asking them. Active participation is essential, so I include interactive elements like discussions, problem-solving activities, and collaborative projects. I regularly monitor their progress and provide constructive feedback, making adjustments to the learning plan as needed based on their progress and feedback.
For Existing Students:
For my existing students, I maintain continual engagement by regularly checking in with them to discuss their progress and any new challenges they face. To keep them engaged and challenged, I introduce advanced topics or concepts. I periodically review previously covered material to reinforce their knowledge and provide additional practice problems and exercises to solidify their understanding. I encourage group activities or study sessions to foster peer learning and collaboration. I also offer mentoring opportunities, allowing them to mentor new students, which reinforces their own knowledge and builds confidence. I regularly reassess their goals and adjust the learning plan as needed, always acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments to keep them motivated. To make learning more engaging and accessible, I incorporate technology and online resources and connect lessons to real-world applications to show the relevance of the material.
