About Jonathan

I have been teaching piano for eight years and have taught over twenty-five students, most of whom have stayed with me for several years. My students have come to me with a wide range of abilities and from vastly different age groups. They have all achieved proficiency with the piano, with many completing several ABRSM graded exams. I have worked a lot with adult learners who were complete beginners and similarly awakened some long-dormant skills. As a trainee primary school teacher, I am well versed in teaching children of all ages! I have completed my Masters in Music at King's College London, where I specialised in Modern and Medieval music. So, I have a wide breadth of knowledge to help inform music choices within our lessons. I love teaching and assisting students in developing.

About the lesson

Our lessons will focus on developing good playing technique while making reading music notation fun and approachable! I have several music-based games and activities for learners of all ages to engage with learning Piano in a fun and exciting way. I also try to use examples of your favourite kinds of music as activities within lessons alongside developing technique through selected method books. I really value the role of listening to music while learning the Piano, so alongside practice, I usually give some selected listenings to help you develop a greater awareness of style and musicality. Most importantly, I am entirely flexible in teaching and will work with you to create a personal learning plan to help you achieve your goals!
