Question 1

🧬 What are the basics of the Irish language?

Accepted Answer

Gaeilge rests on three pillars: verb-first syntax, lenition and eclipsis mutations, and gendered nouns.

In Irish, sentences start with the verb, not the subject as in English.
Lenition adds a h after certain consonants to change pronunciation.
Eclipsis adds letters like m, n, or g in front of words in specific grammar contexts.
Irish nouns have gender, and this influences how other words change around them.

A tutor helps you practise these rules in real sentences so the patterns become automatic.

Question 2

💰 How much do Irish grinds cost in Carrigaline?

Accepted Answer

You can expect to pay roughly €32/h per hour for Irish grinds in Carrigaline.

Prices fluctuate based on a few key considerations:

Whether you're preparing for Junior Cycle, Leaving Cert, or learning conversationally
How experienced the tutor is and whether they hold teaching credentials
Whether you meet online, travel to the tutor, or have them come to you
Session length and frequency: weekly, twice weekly, or intensive blocks

Many tutors offer a free trial lesson so you can check the fit before committing.

Question 3

💻 Can you take Irish classes online?

Accepted Answer

Connect with native Irish speakers online to master the language faster and to perfect your pronunciation.

Many of our Irish tutors also offer private online grinds. In fact, about 80% of the private tutors across our platform give Irish classes via Zoom.

To find the available online classes, just enter your subject criteria into the search engine and select the webcam filter to see the available teachers who are currently offering online lessons in your desired subject.

Online lessons via Zoom offer you more benefits. You can plan your classes to fit around your schedule and online lessons are often less expensive as the tutor does not need to travel.
