About Abigail

English Language (with Spanish) graduate dedicated to assisting you reach your full potential in English. I have prior experience tutoring Adult Learners of English as a Second Language and knowledge in this field which would be applied in my teaching. I have tutored adults studying for the IELTS Exam at College, lead a pleasure reading group for learners of English as a Second Language, tested learners' CEFR levels, held classes for International University Students learning English as a Second Language and tutored both University level and GCSE level students. As well as this, I have had the honour of being taught by experts in the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) at University and have conducted research in this area. The research I have studied related to SLA is ongoing, thus incredibly relevant, meaning I have an insight into how best to assist your progression with English (though I do not claim to know everything there is to know) and will strive to assist you in the best way possible with your spoken and written communication as well as your comprehension.

About the lesson

My teaching method is based on what you already know based on tests that I may initially give you. If you do not wish to do such tests you can ask me what you need help with and I will work through it with you, giving you homework after each session to bring to the next. Each session will consist of questions asked by you, the student, and answers mostly by myself unless we are doing an activity. If you wish to practise your conversational skills that is also fine. Please do not feel intimidated by me, I am an easy going person but my lessons may be jam-packed with content so be willing to learn. Content will be based upon the syllabus you are learning and if you do not study a syllabus, it will be based on aspects of grammar with some activities to complete during the lesson. Some of these activities may involve a degree of reading for pleasure however I will ensure that all students have access to the books we are reading before we read. Teaching methods will also be influenced by ongoing research regarding Second Language Acquisition (that's research about people like you acquiring English), so expect lessons to make the most of your time and money.
