About Alicia

I am a Durham University graduate from Bath, UK. I graduated from Durham in 2023 with an upper-class 2:1 with honours in Psychology. I enjoyed every moment of my learning journey within university and have a passion for sharing my love for education with others. Currently, I am a TEFL-accredited Grade 1 and Grade 5 ESL teacher at Hanoi Adelaide School in Vietnam, where I teach Maths, English, and Science to young Vietnamese learners. I strive to create engaging and interactive lessons that inspire curiosity and confidence in my students, helping them develop essential language and critical thinking skills. Teaching in Vietnam has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I love seeing my students grow and thrive in the classroom. Beyond teaching, I am also a keen athlete, having been captain of University College, Durham Women’s Football Team for two consecutive years. During this time, I led my team to win our league and Club of the Year. Before becoming a teacher, I worked for the NHS as a Healthcare Assistant, a role that requires teamwork, empathy, and patience—qualities that also shape my approach to teaching. In my spare time, I enjoy nature walks, strength training, and spending time with my friends and family.

About the lesson

I employ a student-centred teaching methodology, incorporating interactive activities, visual aids, and hands-on learning to create a dynamic classroom environment. My approach focuses on building students’ confidence in English communication while integrating core academic skills. My degree in Psychology gives me a background that enhances my understanding of cognitive development and effective teaching strategies. Additionally, my experience as a healthcare assistant in the NHS has strengthened my patience, adaptability, and interpersonal skills—qualities that are essential in the classroom. I am passionate about education and committed to inspiring a love for learning in my students, ensuring they develop both linguistic and critical thinking skills that will serve them in their academic journeys.

On top of all this, I have recent hands-on experience as a student myself amongst the current climate of increased pressure. Lastly, my leadership experience within my football team will also shape me to be an inspirational and disciplined tutor.
